Flautur með framandi brag - Flautuhátíð í Menningarhúsinu Hofi
Laugardaginn 21. júlí kl. 20.00 verða haldnir glæsilegir tónleikar í Menningarhúsinu Hofi en þar kemur fram flautukórinn The Metropolitan Flute Orchestra frá Boston Massachusetts.
Á efnisskránni eru verk eftir J. Sibelius, E. Grieg, F. Mendelsohn, Manuel De Falla auk tónlistar eftir bandarísk tuttugustu aldar tónskáld. Í hljómsveitinni eru rúmlega þrjátíu flautuleikarar og leika þeir á sjö mismunandi gerðir af þverflautum, allt frá piccolo niður í kontrabassaflautu og er raddsvið þeirra hvorki meira né minna en 6 áttundir. Óhætt að búast við einstökum hljómi og afar vönduðum tónlistarflutningi á þessum tónleikum. Hljómsveitin var stofnuð árið 1998 og hefur á farsælum ferli farið í tónleikaferðir um öll Bandaríkin auk þess að ferðast um England, Skotland, Írland, Frakkland, Þýskaland, Austurríki, Pólland, Slóvakíu og Tékklands.
Stjórnandi hópsins er Paige Dasher Long, sem er þekkt fyrir störf sín sem stjórnandi og tónskáld auk þess að koma fram á hátíðum og kenna sem gestur við tónlistarháskóla.

The Metropolitan Flute Orchestra is comprised of advanced, highly trained, adult flutists. The ensemble has performed for prestigious events in New England and throughout the United States, and has presented concert tours in England, Scotland, France, Ireland, Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary, and the Czech Republic. From classical and sacred literature to jazz, folk songs and show tunes, the ensemble has been delighting audiences since 1998. With a six octave pitch range, the Metropolitan Flute Orchestra utilizes piccolo, Eb soprano flute, concert flute, Bb flute d’amour, alto flute, bass flute, and contrabass flute.
Paige Dashner Long is an internationally recognized flute choir director, contrabass flutist and award winning composer. Currently Ms. Long, an Altus Flute Artist, directs the Metropolitan Flute Orchestra. She has led workshops and directed festivals for music schools in France, Germany and Mexico, as well as for universities and flute associations throughout America.
