The Akureyri Theatre Company acting school has been operated since 2009. A lot of students have studied there, where the students are divided by age groups for courses for the whole year. About 75 students attend every semester and many of them have been there from the beginning. The school is for children and teenagers from 9 to 16 years of age. The classes are 90 minutes, once a week, for 12 weeks each semester. Every semester ends with an introduction or a show, when the number of classes each week also increases for preparations.

The objective of the school is to give young people a chance to develop their own methods to harness their creativity and use it in an artistic way. The focus is performance arts in a wide sense.

The school is intended for children and teenagers of the age 7 to 16 years of age.  Students are divided into groups depending on their experience and age, each group attends once a week, 60 to 90 minutes each time. 

At the end of each course there is an introduction or performance, where students perform and show what they have been working on all semester. Parents are also invited to visit around the middle of the semester.

Objectives for the younger groups:

In the younger groups the focus is on the basics of dramatization, telling a story, connecting the body and the voice, in addition to working with ideas and executing them. At the end of the course the student will have gained a basic training in presenting acted material, be capable of expressing him/herself in front of an audience and have good understanding of working in a group.

Objectives for the older groups:

In the older student groups the focus is on increasing understanding and literacy of texts of plays as well as continuing training in space awareness, perception, interpretation and voice control. At the end of the course the student will have the training and understanding of certain methods pertaining to stage arts, be capable of expressing him/herself in front of an audience and have good understanding of working in a group.

During the autumn semester of the older groups the main focus is on working on scenes, increasing understanding and literacy of texts of plays as well as continuing training in space awareness, perception, interpretation and voice control. At the end of the course the student will have gained the training and understanding of certain methods pertaining to the stage arts, be capable of expressing him/herself in front of an audience and have good understanding of working in a group.
