The Akureyri Theater Company acting school has been operating since 2009. Throughout the year students are divided according to their experience and age with roughly 75 students attending every semester. The school is for children and teenagers from 9 to 16 years of age. Classes are 90 minutes, once a week, for 12 weeks each semester.

The objective of the school is to give young people a chance to develop their own methods of harnessing their creativity and using it in artistic ways. Broadly, the focus is performance art.

At the end of each course there is an presentation or performance, where students show what they have been working on all semester. Parents are also invited to visit around the middle of the semester.

Objectives for the younger groups:

In the younger groups, focus is on the basics of dramatization, telling a story, connecting the body and the voice, and working with ideas. At the end of the course the student will have gained a basic training in presenting acted material, be capable of expressing him/herself in front of an audience, and have a basic understanding of how to work in a group.
