Akureyri Culture Society - ACS Menningarfélag Akureyrar - MAk


 In the spring of 2014 the representatives of the Akureyri Theatre Company (Leikfélag Akureyrar), the North Iceland Symphonic Orchestra (Sinfóníuhljómsveit Norðurlands) and the Hof Culture Society signed an agreement stating their participation in the establishment of a new institution, Akureyri Culture Society (ACS).  The aim is to create a strong scene for the three largest cultural institutions in North Iceland to cooperate, to further advance Akureyri´s cultural society and further strengthening the operations carried out by these parties.  All their work builds up to promoting and strengthening the operation, establish artistic independence, smaller superstructure and a more economical operation. 

ACS objectives

  • Strengthening occupational acting and symphonic music in Akureyri.
  • Offering the best possible scene for music and stage performances, meetings and conferences.
  • Contribute to a safe economical environment and good handling and utilization of public funds.
  • Contribute to offering more cultural and artistic events in North Iceland and thus contribute to a more diverse cultural and artistic society in North Iceland.
  • Ensure the cooperation and coordination of events between the three founders.

The board of ACS is comprised of four parties, one representative from each cultural institution and one representative of the municipality of Akureyri, who is chair:

Arnheiður Jóhannsdóttir, the representative of the Akureyri Theatre Company

Ágúst Torfi Hauksson, the representative of Hof Culture Society
